Alright, here's

The Story

In 2010, we were just two awkward teenagers sharing a classroom—Shreya, quiet and rule-abiding, and Akash, full of sarcasm and mischief. We hardly ever spoke. Honestly, if anyone had told our classmates back then that we’d end up together like this, they probably would have thought it was a joke.

But life had its own plans. In 2013, after high school, we ran into each other at a chess tournament (romantic, right?). One unexpected conversation turned into many, and somehow that quiet girl and the sarcastic guy became friends. Then, both of us ended up in the same city for undergrad—different colleges, but the same city—and over stolen weekends, late night conversations, and long walks, friendship quietly grew into love.

In 2014, we officially became "us."
From there, it was four beautiful years of being together—meeting once a week (or once in two weeks when life got in the way), long phone calls, and never running out of things to say. Then in 2018, Akash moved to the US for his Master’s and PhD. Shreya stayed back in India, holding on to love across oceans. We saw each other once in three years. It wasn’t easy, but we always knew this was meant to be.

In 2021, Shreya moved to the US too, but of course, we ended up in different states (classic us!). New York and Minnesota. Not far, but not quite close either. Finally, in December 2022, we closed the distance for good. No more airports, no more time zones, just one home and one endless supply of “what should we eat tonight?”
This September 2025, we’ll celebrate 11 years together. And in November, we’re finally getting married.

We’ve grown up together, loved through every version of ourselves, and we can’t wait to begin this new chapter—with you by our side.

Haldi
The Haldi ceremony is all about good vibes and golden glow. Traditionally, a paste of turmeric, sandalwood, and love (okay, mostly turmeric) is applied to the bride and groom by family and friends. It is meant to bless the couple, ward off evil, and give their skin that pre-wedding radiance. But it doesn’t stop there — get ready for a water fight, color smearing, and fun photos that’ll make you wonder why you wore anything nice in the first place.

Dress code: Yellow – because chaos looks better in sunshine.

Sangeet
The word Sangeet means “music” — and that’s exactly what this night is all about! Traditionally a celebration where women from both sides sang and danced, the modern Sangeet is a full-blown party. Expect dramatic dance performances, emotional (and slightly embarrassing) speeches, and that one uncle who refuses to leave the dance floor. Bring your moves, your cheer, and your phone storage — you’ll want to remember this night forever. Bonus points if you surprise us with a dance. Wear a sparkly attire - if you’re not blinding someone under the lights, you’re not doing it right.

Dress code: Sparkly Indian or glam Western.

Baarat + Wedding
The celebration begins with the Baarat — the groom’s grand arrival, accompanied by lively music, a vibrant band, and energetic dancing as he makes his way to the wedding venue. Friends and family join in, creating a joyous procession full of color, rhythm, and excitement.

Once the groom reaches the bride, the Varmala ceremony marks the moment they exchange floral garlands, symbolizing their acceptance and respect for each other. It’s a playful and heartfelt ritual that kicks off the main wedding festivities.

Next come the Phere — the sacred seven circles around the holy fire. Each round represents a vow the couple makes to each other, sealing their commitment and love in front of family and friends. This ritual is the heart of the wedding and the start of their lifelong journey together.

Dress code: Bring your ethnic A-game – Indian traditional wear

Travel

Visas
If you're joining us from abroad (yay!)

Arriving in Akola, India
Our wedding is in Akola, Maharashtra — a small city known for its rich history and both our hometowns, where most of our family currently resides. The nearest international airport is Nagpur (NAG). When travelling to India, you will likely fly into a major airport like Mumbai (BOM) or Delhi (DEL), then take a domestic flight (about an hour) to Nagpur. You could get lucky and find good flights directly to Nagpur too. Akola is about a 4-hour drive from Nagpur airport, and also very well connected by buses and trains. Let us know when you plan to arrive to Nagpur so we can look at carpooling options with others too!

Local SIM Cards
Getting a local SIM is simple and affordable! You'll need to provide your passport and visa, along with a passport-sized photo, and complete the activation process. SIM cards are available at airports and mobile stores from providers like Airtel, Jio, and Vi. Activation usually takes a few hours and includes data and calls, making it easy to stay connected during your trip.
